Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Simply Math & Reading?

Why choose us over other tutoring options?

  • Our owner and active Executive Director has over 30 years of teaching experience with over 20 years in the area of professional tutoring.
  • The supervisory staff also has many years of experience in professional tutoring.
  • We care about the success of each student!
  • Our instruction is highly individualized to meet each student's needs and goals.
  • We specialize in the subjects we tutor.  Each of our tutors is thoroughly tested over the material they will tutor and they are each trained in our methods.
  • We communicate regularly with the parents of our students to ensure that we are doing everything possible to help them meet their goals.
  • We communicate with the schools, when appropriate, to help gain insight into the structure of the courses our students are taking, and to understand how the teachers view the progress of students with whom we work.
  • We have been in tutoring students since 1991.

Who are the teachers and supervisors?

  • Each of our tutors specializes in the subject matter he or she will be tutoring in our offices. We ensure this with a three-part hiring process.
  1. Prospective tutors are initially brought in for an interview, during which we learn about the individual's experience as well as personality.
  2. Prospective tutors must pass a test over the material he or she wants to tutor.
  3. Prospective tutors participate in a "mock" tutoring session in which he or she tutors one of the Directors.
Using this method ensures that our tutors are not only knowledgeable about the material, but they are able to explain it as well, in a manner that a student would understand.
  • Our tutors come from a wide variety of backgrounds, from college students (we do not hire high school students as tutors) to  active/retired teachers to engineers. Each of them brings various strengths into the office, as well as knowledge of the real world, which will allow them to work with their students and guide them toward a successful path.

What is the typical length of time a student stays with us?

  • The length of a student's stay with us varies based on a number of factors.
  1. Some students attend because they need help with a specific class and only take sessions for a few months.
  2. Others may struggle with a subject and need help with it throughout their school career.
  3. Students sometimes start in our Math Masters program building a foundation and switch to tutoring when they are older for help in preparing for college admission tests.
  • The length of stay is ultimately the decision of the parent.  You are not locked into a contract that forces you to use our services. You stay with us because you are receiving the educational assistance that you want.

How are sessions structured?

  • Private and semi-private tutoring sessions are available.
  • Tutoring sessions are 55 minutes long.
  • Students are assigned to a tutor and see that tutor for most sessions.
  • Reading Masters sessions are always private and are 25 minutes long.
  • Math Masters is a group program but each student is assigned to a specific instructor.

Is there any required commitment?

  • Students enroll in our programs on a month-to-month basis. During that time, changes may be made to the schedule, but we expect that students will continue for the full month. When a regular schedule has been established for a student, those sessions are held in the student's name until we are told otherwise by the parents.
  • If a student cannot attend his or her scheduled session, 24 hours notice needs to be given (except, of course, in the case of illness or emergency).  That session needs to be rescheduled by the end of the following month.

  • Students are expected to pay for sessions on a monthly basis at the time of the first session of each month.

What if I don't know exactly what my child needs?

  • Comprehensive testing is available to determine the exact areas needing improvement.
  • If appropriate, our staff can contact the school to obtain necessary information with regard to your child.
  • Our knowlegeable, experienced staff will listen to you and help guide you towards the program best suited to achieving the desired goal.

How do I enroll my child?

  • Our enrollment process is simple! Call or e-mail us.  We can explain our programs, discuss available options, get the necessary information from you and set up a schedule that meets your needs.
